Corona Geek #119 – Rotating Around A Center Point Using Transitions and Using Coronium Sockets

Corona Geek

During this week’s Corona Geek Hangout, Corona Ambassador, Ed Maurina walked us through a bit of vector math to answer a question from the forums about rotating an object around a center point using transition.to. Also, Coronium Developer, Chris Byerly walked us through a demo of Coronium Sockets, which gives you the realtime power of Coronium GS without the game layer.

Whether you want to write Lua code on a mobile device or on a server, Coronium has you covered with Coronium Cloud, Coronium GS, and now Coronium Sockets. Also, look for Coronium PI coming soon.

Congratulations to Ray Delia from S. K. Studios for winning this months Corona Geek Games challenge

This was packed full of great stuff! The rotation transition code is something I’ve been looking for for a while. I wanted to create a camera that would orbit the main character of my game, but I could only get a rigid square as well. I’ll definitely be trying out your code. Thank you!

Excited about using Coronium too, I had no idea it could be so simple to add cloud based functionality. I did have a quick question though… Chris mentioned broadcasting can be used for chat, could it also be used to broadcast coordinates or moves of users to all players on a multiplayer game or would that be too server intensive?
